In his first season at Colorado, head coach Deion Sanders knows that there’s going to be a lot of attention on the Buffaloes. Despite that attention, not many people expect a lot on the field from Colorado in Sanders’ first season owing to the size of the rebuild. Still, Sanders expects to win.

As Fall Camp gets started, Sanders was asked about his expectations for year one at Colorado and he explained that winning is the standard.

“To win, to win,” Deion Sanders said. “To win, develop, get these guys to the next level, and help them to be men, not boys.”

“That’s my expectation and we’re going to eclipse that. We’re going to win. We’re going to win. We’re going to win. I don’t know how to say that, wish I could say it in several different languages, but we’re going to win.”

Deion Sanders has garnered national attention for his approach to rebuilding the Colorado Buffaloes. When he took the job, Sanders made it clear that he was going to add through the transfer portal, and that he was going to push out players who didn’t meet what he wanted for the program. That rubbed many people the wrong way. However, it also isn’t unique to Sanders in the sport.

At the time, Sanders had a lot to say about his transfer portal usage. However, he was never surprised by the negative reaction.

“Not whatsoever because it’s always been that way,” Sanders said. “Even when I was starting out in sports, I was the one that was not voted ‘Most Likely to Succeed.’ Undersized, this and that it was always a problem. It was always that … So I’m used to that, I’m accustomed to adversity and I’m accustomed to having an understanding of ridicule and disbelief.”

In the end, Colorado’s use of the portal is going to be decided whether Deion Sanders can win in year one as he expects to.

Deion Sanders shoots down concerns about team depth

There are concerns that Colorado won’t have the depth to compete throughout the season. However, Deion Sanders shot down those worries.

“You’re talking about scholarship spots. How many people we got on the roster right now? 115. You think we’re needing more people? You can only, what, you can only travel with … 72. So that means there’s an extra 35 or whatever it is. … But yeah, shoot, we don’t need that,” Sanders said.

“Why would we save those? Because we’re about to win, we’re about to really win and we’re going to need more recruits next year. Think about that. Forward-thinking. We can only put 11 on the field at a time. Think about that. Everything you come up with, we’ve thought out, man. I’m not new to this, man. I’m true to this. I’ve been doing this for a minute. I know you think I haven’t been at this level for a minute, but I’ve been in football for — how many years? A long time. Alright. I know what I’m doing.”
