Deion Sanders won't attend Pac-12 Media Days due to follow-up surgery

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders won’t be in attendance for his debut Pac-12 Media Days due to foot surgery, according to a statement released by the school.
Sanders had a procedure done on his foot but needs a follow up based upon the advice of his doctors. The surgery is scheduled for July 20, per the statement.
Sanders had numerous issues with blood clots in his legs during his coaching tenure with Jackson State and now Colorado.
“Following the success of his last procedure and upon the advice of his doctors, Coach Prime is scheduled for a subsequent, routine follow-up procedure on July 20,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, his recovery will preclude him from attending Pac-12 media day, but he is fully expected to be back coaching in time for fall camp. Everyone at CU wishes Coach a fast recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on campus soon.
“Defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will represent CU at Pac-12 media day events along with Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.”
Back in June, Sanders gave an update on the condition.
“As you know I’ve faced some medical challenges with my foot but I’ve never said ‘WHY ME’ – I keep moving forward, progressing,” Sanders wrote on Instagram. . . . “See you never know what a person may be going through while I sit in your seat of judgement but you can trust and believe that we are all going through something – just keep the faith and know that if He brought you to it, He will bring you through it . . I’m CoachPrime and I’m built for this. #Coach Prime

“I have full trust in my medical team and God Bless, Dr. Ken Hunt (orthopedic surgeon); Dr. Donald Jacobs (vascular surgeon); Dr. Max Wohlauer (vascular surgeon) and @laurenjaskevold Lauren Askevold – and more importantly I have full trust in Jesus!”
During the meeting, documented in the video, Sanders said he had no feeling in the bottom of his foot.

Sanders is expected back by fall camp to coach the Buffaloes in his inaugural season with the program. A lot of eyes are on Colorado this season after Sanders’ transformative offseason with the transfer portal and recruiting.
He notably brought along son Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter from Jackson State in a myriad of moves since leaving the HBCU.
