Colorado’s season started with some high highs and has closed with some low lows. Still, regardless of the peaks and valleys, the most important thing for Deion Sanders is that, in his eyes, the Buffaloes are headed exactly where they need to go.

Sanders spoke about the course that Colorado is on during his coaches show this week. He admitted that it’s very clear that they’re not at their final destination yet. However, they’re on the right path toward being where they want to eventually be.

We’re headed in the right direction,” Sanders said. “I’m not going to say we’re where we want to be because we want to be winning and dominating – of course. But we’re headed in the proper direction.”

Colorado, if nothing else, is in a more energized place than they were at the end of 2022. After going 1-11 last fall, Coach Prime has brought a party to Boulder and put something on the field that can both win and attract talent to their program.

Again, the Buffaloes are anything but a finished project. After an exciting 3-0 start that put them under the national spotlight, they’ve since lost seven of their last eight overall.

Even so, the most significant detail they need right now is a path which, according to Sanders, they believe they have.

“I’m proud of the staff, I’m proud of everyone over in the building – in the house. I’m really happy,” said Sanders.

Sanders hilariously confuses Mt. Rushmore for the Hollywood sign

When you’re a man like Deion Sanders, you’ve seen a lot of places and done a lot of things. However, Coach Prime got his landmarks mixed up in quite a comical way on Monday.

During his press conference to start the week, Sanders asked for clarification on what “those four heads in California” were called. He was meaning to reference Mount Rushmore but, as he quickly learned, that monument is actually located in Keystone, South Dakota.

“What’s those little four heads that’s in California? What do they call those? The people faces, engraved?” asked Sanders.

Then, when the media in the room corrected him by telling him it was in South Dakota, he almost couldn’t believe it. Everyone in the room than realized that, in actuality, he had seemingly mixed up the mountain with the well-known Hollywood sign.

“It’s in where?” Sanders asked. “I thought it was in LA all this time?”

“Wow…My geography!” laughed Sanders. “That’s the Hollywood thing? That’s what I thought – I’m sorry! Thank for you educating me. Jesus…South Dakota?”
