Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders reveal how Colorado's new-look roster built chemistry so quickly
Deion Sanders completed as large scale of a roster overhaul as college football may have ever seen this offseason at Colorado. Even so, you wouldn’t know it based on how they’ve played the first two weeks which, to QB Shedeur Sanders and WR/CB Travis Hunter, says everything about the bonding that the Buffaloes have done.
Sanders and Hunter spoke about the dynamic of their brand-new team during an appearance on ‘First Take’ on Friday. Sanders started by saying it hasn’t been as much of a challenge to get everyone together in Boulder. That’s because he says they’ve already proven their worth to one another.
“It really hasn’t been a challenge. All it is is having your teammate’s trust,” said Sanders. “Whenever they realize, okay, cool. I proved myself every day in practice, Trav proved himself, and everybody on the field is able to prove themself and get the respect of others? Then it’s easy.”
“We’re going out there and just leaning on each other and just counting on each other,” Sanders said. “All the transfers? It’s a lot of things. Like, a lot of outside people don’t understand, like, in the locker room and understand where the real bonds is.”
From Hunter’s perspective, he felt their early connections were due to the fact that Sanders hit the ground running with all of them from the moment of his arrival at Colorado. He was specific about practice as being the place where they forged everything considering how they got to know one another as people and players.

“I mean he came in and he let them all know off the rip. I mean everybody knew we had to go in and dominate. We had to do what he wanted or he expected of us,” said Hunter. “He brought 80 new players, none of us knew each other for real. So we just had to go in and bond.”
“Practice? It was hard. It was tough. But, after that, we wanted to bond. We got to know each player and what they can provide for us,” Hunter said. “We just bonded and we knew we had to get on the same side to dominate the season.”
Sanders and Hunter were two of the several transfers that Coach Sanders brought with him to Colorado. They’re also two who have proved to be Louis with as both are in the very early Heisman conversation with Sanders throwing for over 900 yards and six touchdowns and Hunter posting fantastic stats on both sides of the ball as a two-way player.
This experiment could have very easily fallen on its face based on how much change took place. Coach Prime has made it work on a massive scale through two games, though, and will look to keep it working this weekend against Colorado State.
