Ben Miller grand slam pushes Duke ahead of FSU, 9-2, in ACC Championship game

Duke Blue Devils third baseman Ben Miller opened up the ACC Championship Game against Florida State with a grand slam in the fourth inning.
At the time, the Blue Devils had already built a 5-2 lead in the game, getting to the Seminoles bullpen in the process. That continued into the fourth inning when Duke put two men on base before another pitching change. That switch didn’t work out well, with new pitcher Yoel Tejada Jr. loading the bases only to let up the grand slam. That made it a 9-2 game.

There must be some power in Ben Miller’s mustache because he sent the ball into orbit. With that, the game was completely turned on its head and now the Blue Devils are in a position to play with a large lead and try and hold off a potential Florida State comeback.
It’s a bullpen game for both teams, meaning that both coaches are doing their best to manage matchups. That can be difficult to do and all it takes is one mistake to give up a rally and momentum in a game. That’s, largely, something that has worked out in Duke’s favor early in the game.
This season, Ben Miller is hitting .371 with a .452 OBP. He’s also slugging .652 for the season. He’s done that in 51 games, all of which he started, helping him to accumulate 13 home runs, 18 doubles, a triple, and 43 RBIs on the year.

A graduate student who transferred to Duke from Penn, Miller was an All-ACC First Team Third Baseman selection and a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist.
It was the second home run for Ben Miller this season.
For Duke, there’s plenty on the line during the ACC Tournament Championship. First and foremost, that includes a chance to win the conference. However, it could go beyond that as far as the NCAA Tournament is concerned. The Blue Devils are hoping to host a NCAA Regional this year, and beating Florida State in this moment would go a long way in getting to that point.
There is still plenty of time for things to change. However, for now, it looks like the Blue Devils are in a good position moving forward to win the ACC Tournament Championship.
