Mike Krzyzewski provides injury update on Trevor Keels

Duke guard Trevor Keels suffered an apparent lower leg/ankle injury in the Blue Devils’ Tuesday night contest with Florida State and did not return to the contest.
Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski provided an update following the game.
“It’s not a knee it’s a calf injury,” Krzyzewski said. “But we don’t know the extent of it.”
Early in the second quarter, Keels was playing on-ball defense against Florida State’s Caleb Mills. Keels rotated over, tried to steal the ball from Mills, but they were both brought to the ground in a tangle-up. When Keels went down, he landed awkwardly, placing his entire body weight on his ankle, which appeared to be twisted. The injury has not yet been diagnosed but it appears that his right ankle is the spot of the injury.
Duke’s injury update merely labeled it a “lower leg” injury and said that he was doubtful to return to the contest.
Keels finished 3-of-11 for nine points, along with two rebounds, two assists, two steals and two turnovers. Duke lost the game, 79-78 in overtime.
A native of Clinton, Maryland, Keels is a true freshman that prepped at St. Paul VI Catholic and is averaging 12.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

Keels was a four-star recruit coming into Duke according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. His rating made him the No. 3 shooting guard in the 2021 recruiting class and the No. 1 recruit coming out of Virginia (despite being from Maryland, he prepped in Virginia).
One of the nation’s top recruits, Keels entered Duke with high expectations and has delievered. He opened ACC play with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, along with four rebounds against Virginia Tech, and he was named ACC Freshman of the Week after he helped Duke win three games in five days against South Carolina State, App State and Elon. In Duke’s early-season win over No. 1 Gonzaga, Keels notched seven assists, along with six points, four rebounds and two steals.
Perhaps his best shooting performance of the season came on Nov. 9 against No. 10 Kentucky, a game in which he scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting.
