Duke first baseman Sam Harris has entered the Transfer Portal

Duke Blue Devils first baseman Sam Harris has entered the Transfer Portal. He has a do not contact tag.
Sam Harris came to Duke after playing his high school baseball at Urbandale in Iowa. There, he was the fourth-ranked first baseman and the top-ranked recruit in the state of Iowa coming out of high school.
In two seasons with Duke, Harris appeared in 51 games. The vast majority of that playing time would come during the 2025 season. Last year, he’d play in 44 games and make 32 starts. For the season, he hit .297 with a .385 OBP and a .563 slugging percentage. That was good for a 0.948 OPS. Harris did that with nine home runs, seven doubles, and 42 RBIs.
On the defensive side of the ball, Harris had a .978 fielding percentage in 2025. He did that with only one error, one assist, and 43 putouts.
Duke has become a power in recent seasons under head coach Chris Pollard. He took over the Blue Devils in 2013 and, since then, took Duke to seven NCAA Tournament appearances. That’s more than double the number Duke had before he got there. In two of the last three seasons, the Blue Devils would also make it to the Super Regional, though the program has not been to the College World Series since 1961.

This past season was another very successful one for the Blue Devils. Duke went 41-21 overall and 17-13 in ACC play. They went on the road and won the Athens Regional before losing in the Super Regional, which they hosted in Durham. After that, however, Pollard made the decision to leave the program and take over the Virginia Cavaliers program.
Whenever there is a coaching change, it’s always expected that teams lose several players to the Transfer Portal for one reason or another. That appears to be the case with Duke. The Blue Devils quickly lost multiple players to the portal on Wednesday morning. Along with Sam Harris, outfielder AJ Garcia also entered the portal.
The do not contact tag that Harris has attached to him is an important part of his entry in the portal. It implies that he already knows where he is planning on transferring to for next season. Regardless of wherever that may be, he’ll go there with multiple seasons of eligibility remaining.
