Tyrese Proctor injury update: Jon Scheyer shares promising news on Duke guard

Tyrese Proctor suffered a bone bruise in his knee during Tuesday night’s game against Miami, Duke coach Jon Scheyer confirmed on his radio show Wednesday. He will also be back for the Blue Devils this year, Scheyer said.
Scheyer didn’t provide a firm timeline for Proctor’s return, but confirmed he didn’t suffer any structural damage. It’s a big win for Duke ahead of the final stretch of the regular season.
“Basically, it’s about his pain tolerance and it’s about his movement and strengthening,” Scheyer said, via the News & Observer’s Steve Wiseman. “We’ll be very cautious with that and smart. I don’t want to give an exact time table, because it depends on how we can get him moving over the next days or weeks or however long it takes. But we’re gonna get him back, which is the most important thing.”
Proctor was attempting to defend a Miami fast-break by contesting a shot at the rim when he went down with the injury. After kicking his left knee in the air and coming down, he immediately hobbled down the baseline in pain.
After the game, Scheyer said he and the staff needed to get back to Durham for further testing to find out the extent of Proctor’s injury. He didn’t have any new details in his postgame press conference.

“We have to get him back, get X-rays, MRI,” Scheyer said. “He got hit in the leg. That’s the extent of what I know.”
Tyrese Proctor is an essential piece of the Duke attack this season on both sides of the ball. He ranks third on the roster with 11.8 points per game to go with 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 40.8% from three-point territory. He also scored his thousandth career point during Tuesday’s game against Miami.
Duke improved to 25-3 on the season with a resounding 97-60 victory at Miami and is now on its way to a double-bye in the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils have three games remaining before heading to Charlotte, starting with Saturday’s matchup against Florida State. They will then close things out with a final home game against Wake Forest before the season finale at North Carolina in the Tobacco Road rivalry.
Duke continues to be a force on both offense and defense this season. The Blue Devils sit at No. 1 in the KenPom rankings entering Wednesday’s slate of games while ranking No. 2 in offensive efficiency and No. 4 in defensive efficiency.
