Former Utah tight end Landen King has committed to Duke out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on social media on Monday. King began his career at Auburn.

King has spent four seasons at the collegiate level, splitting those years at both Utah and Auburn. His most productive career came during his first with the Utes. He recorded 14 catches for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Though, in 2024 he recorded three catches for 54 yards and one touchdown. He didn’t play his first game this past season until November.

He originally entered the NCAA transfer portal with a “do not contact” tag. A couple of weeks later, and he’s set to play his fifth season of college football with the Blue Devils.

Before committing to Auburn in the class of 2021, King was a three-star recruit according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 620 overall player in his class, and the No. 34 tight end in his cycle.

King is set to join a Duke squad entering year two under head coach Manny Diaz. He led the Blue Devils to a 9-4 record in 2024, which included an invitation to the Gator Bowl. While Duke fell short of Ole Miss in that matchup, the outlook on the 2025 season in Durham is bright, and King is set to join that effort for the upcoming season.

The Blue Devils kick off its 2025 regular season against Elon on Thursday, Aug. 28. They’ll kick off ACC play on Sept. 20 against NC State. Their schedule also features matchups against Clemson, Wake Forest and of course, Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The spring transfer portal opened Wednesday, April 16 and will close 10 days later on Friday, April 25. As of this writing, more than 3,600 FBS scholarship players have entered the transfer portal in the 2024-25 season.
