ECU QB Katin Houser plans to enter Transfer Portal
ECU Pirates quarterback Katin Houser plans to enter the Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. This will be his second time transferring.
Houser spent the first two seasons of his college career at Michigan State. There, he would take a redshirt in 2022. He would transfer to ECU ahead of the 2024 season. There, he would quickly become one of the top quarterbacks at the Group of Five level.
Coming out of high school at St. John Bosco in California, Houser was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2022. He had been the 210th-ranked player nationally and the 13th-ranked quarterback in that recruiting cycle. He had been an Elite 11 Finals participant and flipped his commitment from Boise State to the Spartans in June 2021.
In 2025, Houser played 12 games as the starting quarterback at ECU. He had a completion percentage of 65.9 percent for 3,300 yards and 19 touchdowns. That was against six interceptions. On the ground, he had 181 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. That includes sack yardage. It was the best statistical season of his career.
That all came in a season when ECU went 8-4 and 6-2 in the American. The Pirates are currently getting ready to play Pitt in the Military Bowl. This all came in the first season that Blake Harrell was the head coach at ECU. He had previously been the team’s defensive coordinator. Katin Houser had originally come to the program when it was led by Mike Houston.

Changes coming to the Transfer Portal
The Transfer Portal has gone under some transformative changes. Now, this is the first season with these changes in place, meaning how players are going to utilize the portal is likely about to change in college football too.
The Spring Transfer Window has been eliminated. Furthermore, the Winter Transfer Window has been moved from December to January. It was also shortened to just 10 days that it will be open for players to enter. This comes after the Division I Football Oversight Committee voted to do so. The NCAA Division I Administration Committee initially only approved the move of the window and later approved the decision to shorten it as well.
The NCAA Transfer Portal is set to open on January 2nd and it will stay open through January 16th on the calendar. Until then, nobody is going to be able to officially enter the Transfer Portal.
