Florida sophomore guard Boogie Fland hopes to be fully cleared for all basketball related activities this month, Florida head coach Todd Golden revealed on Tuesday. Fland missed the last month of workouts after undergoing minor sports hernia surgery.

Fland transferred from Arkansas this offseason after averaging 13.5 points and 5.1 assists as a freshman in 2024-25. He joins a strong core, led by returning National Champions Alex Condon, Reuben Chinyelu and Thomas Haugh, as the Gators look to go back-to-back for the first time since 2006-07.

“He could have played through it, but it made more sense to get it taken care of so he didn’t have to worry about it during the season,” Golden said of Fland’s surgery, via GatorsOnline.com.

The Archbishop Stepinac alum was the No. 7 ranked transfer in On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings this offseason. He was joined by Princeton guard Xaivian Lee (No. 39 ranked transfer) and Ohio guard AJ Brown (No. 84 ranked transfer), making up the nation’s No. 38 ranked portal class.

Fland was an integral part of Arkansas‘ first team under head coach John Calipari, as he contributed double-digit points in 15 of Arkansas‘ first 18 games before suffering an injury that would shut him down for the remainder of the regular season.

He would return for the Razorbacks’ NCAA Tournament run, where he averaged just four points and 1.6 assists in three games (17.6 minutes per game). Now healthy, he has big shoes to fill following the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player Walter Clayton‘s departure to the NBA.

“I think in the summer, individual player development is a huge part of it,” Golden said about Florida’s progression earlier this summer. “But we have an opportunity to have these six or seven weeks together to try and build a little bit of the team and I think we have a great foundation with the guys coming back. But you know adding Xaivian [Lee]Boogie [Fland]AJ [Brown]CJ [Ingram] and Alex [Lloyd], this gives us a great opportunity to catch them up to speed before the school year starts. That’s kind of the main thing we’re trying to do right now.”
