Mother Nature may have pushed the game back a day but after the result, Florida likely does not mind too much. The Gators are still alive at the College World Series, advancing to the semifinals after a Wednesday morning win against Kentucky. Unfortunately, the Bats Cats are heading back to Lexington one of the program’s best-ever runs.

Brody Donay was a huge reason why Florida wound up winners against their SEC foes, launching two home runs — one of which was a grand slam. He was asked by ESPN’s Kris Budden about his mindset, saying trying to have a good plate appearance was his goal. Florida is ultimately just attempting to keep the lineup moving.

“Just trying to go up there, putting a quality at-bat up for my team,” Donay said. “Just doing the best you can to flip the lineup over and that’s what I’m trying to do.”

Donay finished the day 3-5 with two home runs, a single, and five RBIs. His grand slam put Florida up 4-1 in the first inning, being the start of a seven-spot the Gators put up. The solo blast extended the fifth inning lead to six runs.

There was just a different feeling in the Florida lineup, something potentially sparked by head coach Kevin O’Sullivan. He made the decision to put Jac Caglionone in the leadoff spot, setting the tone early in the first inning. There was no way around him to start the game.

“I think it gave him an opportunity to be pitched to,” Donay said on O’Sullivan’s decision. “All these teams are intentionally walking him, putting him on first base. So, it was great to see him hit again.”

Both Caglionone and Donay are not done for the day, still having one more game to be played. Florida will look to stay alive once again on Wednesday night, facing off against Texas A&M. A spot in the College World Series Finals is on the line.

Florida will need two wins to advance, while Texas A&M needs just one. Advantage certainly to the Aggies, especially since they have not played since Monday afternoon. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle and his team enjoyed a nice break on Tuesday.

With how spent pitching is currently in Omaha, getting good offense is likely going to be the key to winning. Donay needs to put on an incredible encore.
