Danny Wuerffel offers signed No. 7 jersey to fans in exchange for Trevor Etienne jerseys

Have a lightly used Trevor Etienne Florida jersey you’re looking to get rid of, Gators fans? It might just be your lucky day.
After the star running back bolted from Florida and committed to rival Georgia out of the NCAA transfer portal, another guy that wore No. 7 in the orange and blue decided to make fans a rare offer. 1996 Heisman Trophy winner and former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel explained his offer on Twitter on Thursday.
“Any Gator fans wanting to trade their 7 jersey from this season for a timeless, autographed 7 Wuerffel jersey?” Wuerffel wrote on Twitter. “My foundation will donate to the first 10 fans who DM @wuerffelfdn. Happy new year and #GoGators!”
Trade in the jersey of a player who went to one of your most bitter rivals for a signed jersey from a former Heisman Trophy winner and school legend?

Yeah, not a bad deal at all.
The reality, of course, is that the NCAA transfer portal has rapidly changed the way college athletics operate. Rosters are turning over faster than ever, and with the freedom for athletes to move around more, you’re going to have cases like Etienne’s.
The star running back was obviously going to generate plenty of interest in the transfer portal.
After all, Etienne had rushed for 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns in two seasons, while also recording 238 yards receiving and a touchdown catch. He also returned kicks and punts.
But when Etienne committed to Georgia of all places, it left Florida fans feeling quite burned.
Wuerffel’s offer will at least soften the blow for 10 lucky fans.
The former Florida quarterback is widely regarded as one of the best players in program history. He won the 1996 Heisman Trophy, won the Maxwell Award, won the Davey O’Brien Award twice, won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, won the Walter Camp Award, won the Sammy Baugh Trophy and was the two-time SEC Player of the Year.
Wuerffel also led Florida to its first-ever national title in 1996.
And as you can clearly see, he’s still plenty engaged with Florida football.
