Florida defensive back Dijon Johnson remains with team following arrest

Florida defensive back Dijon Johnson remains with the team for offseason workouts while going to summer school following his arrest in early May, the Orlando Sentinel reported on Wednesday. Head coach Billy Napier provided confirmation.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Johnson is set to face internal discipline in the program. The specifics were unclear.
“I think there’s some lessons to be learned, and we’ll keep it at that,” Napier told the Sentinel. “I think that hopefully it will be a teachable moment not only for him but for the entire team and for young people in general.”
Dijon Johnson was arrested May 2 on multiple charges, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. He was later released on a surety bond, documents showed.
Johnson was charged with possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and possession of a controlled substance — a Class 2 and Class 3 felony, respectively. He’s also facing misdemeanor charges of possession of cannabis less than 20 grams and resisting an officer without violence.
Johnson was arrested at 11:20 p.m. May 2 and booked at 1:31 a.m. May 3. He was then released May 4 on a surety bond.

Florida acknowledged the situation in a statement. The school said it would continue to keep tabs on the legal process that will follow.
“We are aware of the situation of Dijon Johnson,” the university said. “We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative processes.”
Johnson is preparing for his third season at Florida and is coming off the most productive season of his career in 2024. He totaled 27 tackles, including two tackles for loss, and two passes defended as a sophomore.
During the offseason, Dijon Johnson underwent shoulder surgery and was limited during spring practice as a result. However, he still could be in line for the starting cornerback job at Florida as he battles against Cormani McClain.
