Florida Gators tight end Amir Jackson plans to enter the Transfer Portal. On3’s Hayes Fawcett first reported his decision.

A native of Portal, Georgia, Jackson was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024. He was the 96th-ranked player nationally and the seventh-ranked tight end in that recruiting cycle. Naturally, he had numerous offers coming out of high school. That includes from Auburn, Miami, and Georgia. Coming out, Charles Power shared some insight into who he is as a player.

“Jumbo athlete with an extremely high upside as a tight end prospect. Measured in at a shade under 6-foot-5 and around 220 pounds prior to his senior season. Has a lean, muscular frame with room to add considerable mass. Has plus length, with his arms measuring at 34 inches. A fluid athlete with the movement skills of a big receiver. Lines up on the outside in a flexbone offense,” Power wrote.

“Shows a considerable catch radius. Effortlessly climbs the ladder to elevate and come down with extended grabs. Has the look of a big-time jump ball threat. Also flashes athleticism as a ball carrier – scoring multiple touchdowns on carries as a senior. Also plays defense as an outside linebacker – registered 70 tackles as a junior. Doubles as a talented basketball player, averaging 13 points per game as a junior. Plays at a lower level of competition and may need some time to adjust to the uptick in competition and continue to add strength in order to play in-line. Has one of the higher developmental ceilings in what is a strong cycle at tight end.”

In 2024, Jackson would play in four games, utilizing his redshirt. He would play an additional 12 games in 2025, including 11 of which where he appeared at tight end, leaving him with three years of eligibility remaining.

This past season, Jackson would make three catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. That’s an average of 9.7 yards per reception and with a long reception of 18 yards.

This comes in what was a frustrating season for Florida, going just 4-8. As a result, Florida made a coaching change, moving on from Billy Napier. He’s being replaced by Jon Sumrall, the Tulane head coach, who is currently pulling double-duty, preparing the Green Wave for the College Football Playoff.

Changes coming to the Transfer Portal

The Transfer Portal itself is undergoing some massive changes. That is also expected to impact both how teams and players utilize it moving forward.

In an effort to alleviate the challenges in roster building, the Spring Transfer Window no longer exists. Only the Winter Window exists, which was moved to January and shorted to a 10-day period. This came after the Division I Football Oversight Committee voted to do so. The NCAA Division I Administration Committee initially only approved the move of the window and later approved the decision to shorten it as well.

On January 2nd, the Transfer Portal is set to open. Players may enter until January 16th this offseason.
