Two Florida football players made a surprise appearance on WWE NXT on Tuesday night on the CW. George Gumbs and Tyreak Sapp joined wrestling star Myles Borne inside the facility.

The trio struck up a conversation before being interrupted by fellow wrestler Lexis King. But the entire thing was a nice little treat for fans of both wrestling and college football.

“Tyreak Sapp, George Gumbs, I’m so hyped you guys are here,” Borne said by way of introduction. “I appreciate you guys coming to NXT. You see, I lived in North Carolina my whole life. But them Tim Tebow days made me a huge Florida Gators fan.”

Gumbs acknowledged that, telling Borne ‘that’s what’s up.’ Then the wrestler continued.

“But hey, this year is your year,” Borne said. “I mean you’ve got a lot of returners on offense. (You two) anchoring down the defense. Gators are so back.”

Borne, seemingly meeting the duo for the first time, then pinpointed one precise moment when his love for Florida was reinvigorated. That was last season. And it involved George Gumbs.

“And George, when you posted that Florida Gators flag at FSU, man that got me juiced,” Borne said.

He was referencing, of course, a controversial flag planting on a day that had more than one of them in the sport of college football. Florida State coach Mike Norvell confronted Florida coach Billy Napier over it, throwing the flag to the side on the field.

And Norvell and the Seminoles were about to get a little retribution on WWE NXT. Because Lexis King was about to enter the room.

“You got a minute? Of course you do, you’re a lone wolf just like me,” King opened up, as Borne continued his conversation and ignored him. “Oh I forgot, he’s deaf. Myles… Myles Borne. Oh, you heard me? Oh, he heard me. Well since you’re such an active listener, let me give you some advice, Myles.”

Borne quickly retorted before King could get another word in. He interjected:

“I don’t want your advice. And me and you aren’t alike. While you’ve taken every shortcut possible, I’ve worked hard to get here. You know, Lexis, you are your father’s son, and that’ll never change.”

That’s when King took the opportunity to twist the knife at the Florida players’ expense. He cut deep.

“Yeah well nothing’s going to change for you by talking to these losers instead of talking to the King,” he said. “The Florida Gators haven’t done jack in over two decades.”

To that, George Gumbs bowed up and took a menacing step closer to King. He made himself large, then replied.

“Hey man, keep talking crazy you’re going to get hit,” Gumbs said. And, at that, the segment cut. For fans, it was a fun little interaction and a nice cross-over event.
