The Florida Gators advanced in the College World Series to play the Texas A&M Aggies. Now, in that game, Nick de la Torre of GatorsOnline shared that head coach Kevin O’Sullivan has announced that Liam Peterson is going to get the start for Florida.

Liam Peterson last pitched on June 15th against Texas A&M. He was only able to pitch 2.1 innings and gave up three earned runs in that game. Walks were a major issue in that game for Peterson, who gave up four to go along with four hits.

In the middle of that game, Kevin O’Sullivan spoke to the ESPN broadcast. There, he explained what went wrong for Liam Peterson.

“I think, you know, it’s obvious he’s got really good stuff. He just worked himself into a couple of walks. And he just made two mistakes on 0-2 counts but obviously, you can see, the talent is there,” O’Sullivan said.

After Peterson came out of the game against Texas A&M, the Gators’ bullpen was able to shut things down and hold the Aggies from scoring again. However, Florida’s bats weren’t able to make up the gap and the Gators fell 3-2. With that loss to Texas A&M, Florida had its back up against the wall and has been a single loss away from elimination ever since. However, wins against NC State and Kentucky earned the Gators a rematch in a must-win game.

The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night. However, that could be moved back due to earlier games running long.

Getting a good performance out of Peterson is going to be huge for Florida. Due to inclement weather, the Gators’ elimination game against Kentucky was postponed from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. That means the Gators are playing a double-header and while Florida only needed to use three pitchers in the win, it does test a team’s pitching depth to do that.

This season, Liam Peterson has made 17 appearances and started 15 of them. He has an ERA of 6.18 in 62.2 innings pitched. He also has 76 strikeouts on the season.

A true freshman, Liam Peterson is from Palm Harbor, Florida. While in high school at Calvary Christian, he was a two-time Perfect Game Preseason First Team All-Region selection. He also struck out 16.7 batters per nine in his final prep season.
