Florida freshman defensive lineman Stephon Shivers is no longer with the team following a recent arrest, according to a report by Graham Hall of 247Sports. Shivers was arrested two weeks ago on a third-degree felony charge of false imprisonment.

Shivers was placed on house arrest that allowed him to attend classes and the team’s football practices by an Alachua County judge. However, Florida has apparently made the decision to part ways with Shivers, at least temporarily.

The incident in question occurred on June 1. According to a Gainesville Police Department report, Shivers and the alleged victim got into a verbal argument that quickly escalated.

The escalation began after the football player found information on the alleged victim’s phone. From there it turned physical.

Stephon Shivers allegedly held the victim down on a bed and shook her, then got on top and began choking the victim to the point she could not breathe. According to the Gainesville Sun, “at close to 400 pounds, the accused outweighed the alleged victim by more than 200 pounds.”

The alleged victim then attempted to leave, but the Stephon Shivers reportedly blocked the doorway. He then threw her black iPhone 16 Pro against the wall, she told police.

According to the police report, Shivers admitted to throwing the phone but denied choking the victim or preventing her from leaving the room. However, “arresting officers noticed lacerations and wounds on the face of the alleged victim that were still visible and bleeding.”

A Florida spokesman said the school is aware of the arrest when contacted by the Gainesville Sun. They noted:

“We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative process,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Prior to enrolling at Florida, Stephon Shivers was ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 497 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class. He checked in as the No. 51 defensive lineman in the class and the No. 17 overall player from the state of Tennessee, hailing from Humboldt (TN) Brentwood Academy.
