Steve Spurrier calls out Florida's offensive issues after loss to Kentucky

Another week, another tough offensive display for Florida. This one came with a quarterback change against Kentucky, benching DJ Lagway in favor of Tramell Jones. But the true freshman did not get much going either, only putting up seven points in Lexington.
This has been a season-long issue for Florida. Enough to the point of Steve Spurrier calling out the problems on Monday. He did not get too deep into what exactly is going wrong other than the Gators’ inability to score points.
“We were talking earlier,” Spurrier began on Another Dooley Noted Podcast. “Long Island, we scored a bunch of points. But since then, I think our high is 29 against Texas. We can’t score 30, 40, or anything like that.”
Florida is averaging 20.4 points per game, good enough for 116th in the country. For reference, there are 136 teams that play at the FBS level. Comparing them just to teams inside the SEC, only South Carolina is putting up worse numbers on the scoreboard. Another team Spurrier has a vested interest in.
All of this while Billy Napier got hired due to his offensive mind. On paper, Florida does have plenty of talented players on that side of the ball. Of course, there is Lagway, who is a former Five-Star Plus+ prospect. People around the league would speak highly of the offensive line as well. And then there are the skill positions, having highly-rated players on the outside. But, for some reason, none of it has come together.

Some specifics then came up when speaking about another game from the weekend. Watching Georgia take down Mississippi State, Spurrier noticed a play Mike Bobo continually called. UGA found success with it and finished the day with great production on the ground.
“Georgia ran that dang counter play where both guys pull,” Spurrier said. “You know, the guard and the tackle both pull. And they were going 20, 25, 30. They ran for about 240 or something liek that. They just took over the game. They didn’t care where it was or anything.”
Florida has three games remaining on its schedule, hoping to find any kind of offensive rhythm. First up is Ole Miss, before hosting two rivalry games against Tennessee and Florida State. The trio certainly possesses its own defensive problems, potentially opening the door to put some points on the board before the door officially closes on 2025.
