Florida enters the second half of its regular season with a 2-4 record. The Gators have lost four of its last five matchups this season.

Three of those losses have come against teams that were ranked in the top 10 at the time. At the same time, Florida has multiple opportunities to prove their worth against top notch opponents this season, just as they did against Texas to begin the month.

“A lot of football still left,” former Florida head coach Steve Spurrier said on Another Dooley Noted Podcast. “Anybody can get on a win streak and and have a very successful season. So we’ve got to hope that’s what’s going to happen for our Gators.”

The Old Ball Coach is likely hoping Florida can find a way to turn its season around soon — much like the Gators did last season. Florida began its season with a 4-5 record before rattling off wins during its next four games to finish the season. That included a Gasparilla Bowl victory over Tulane.

That effort begins this week against Mississippi State, who head to the Swamp for a mid-season SEC clash. That’s the final game for Florida this month thanks to their Week 9 bye. When Florida returns, they’ll be hosting a likely top-10 Georgia team on Nov. 1.

The Gators will travel to Kentucky the next week and stay on the road after that to play No. 5 Ole Miss. Their regular season is rounded out at home with consecutive matchups against No. 11 Tennessee and then Florida State.

Florida head coach Billy Napier spoke to the sense of urgency, intensity and passion that his players feel toward this season. Like Spurrier, he’s hoping his team can turn their season around week by week. More importantly, Napier is challenging his team to get “consumed” with the work and eliminate some of that outside noise.

“They are the ones who do the work everyday,” Napier said of his group. “That’s the respectable thing about it. They continue to do the work the right way. We’ve got to get the details right on game day. They know that and we know that.

“Win, lose or draw, it’s time to turn the page and move on to the next one. That’s the key. You have to get consumed with the work and the prep.”

Kickoff from the Swamp between the Gators and Bulldogs is set for 4:15 p.m. ET. The SEC Network will carry the live broadcast.
