Florida WR Dallas Wilson is currently out of fall camp with a leg injury that could affect his status to start this season. However, once he’s back, Todd McShay expects to see him have a big season as a true freshman for the Gators.

McShay mentioned Wilson as a notable playmaker for this season in the Southeastern Conference on ‘The McShay Show’ on Monday. He expects the young receiver, based on his measurables and what he has already shown since arriving with the program six months ago, to have a big-time year in Gainesville.

“Florida? Dallas Wilson comes in, five-star freshman. This isn’t a transfer. Five-star freshman,” said McShay. “Apparently, this guy is the goods. I’m pumped to watch him.”

“6’3”, 209. You ready for this? (DJ) Lagway might have his guy…He had 10 catches, 195 yards, and two touchdowns in the spring game, okay.”

McShay has a very recent track record to base this thought on as well. Some true freshman receivers became storylines last season with the expert, as well as those at On3, ESPN, and PFF as of late, thinking Wilson could have the same kind of effect as a freshman this fall.

“We saw last year – Jeremiah Smith, Ryan Williams. Some of these guys that were freshmen coming in? That’s a position you can absolutely have a massive impact,” added McShay.

Wilson, a native of Tampa, played his high school football at Tampa Bay Tech. He ranked as the No. 41 overall recruit and a four-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle. He also rated as the No. 8 WR and the No. 5 player out of the state of Florida. That’s according to the Rivals’ Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. With that, Wilson, who flipped from Oregon, was the Gators’ third highest-rated signee in their top-ten class this year behind only WR Vernell Brown III (No. 30, No. 6 WR) and CB Ben Hanks III (No. 38, No. 6 CB).

Wilson built a lot of this attention this offseason since coming in. That’s mainly so with that record-setting outing for a receiver he had in the Orange & Blue Game in April. However, while continuing that trend to start fall camp, some of his hype took a hit last week with the news of his lower leg injury, which will keep him out “for a couple weeks” per GatorOnline’s Zach Abolverdi.

Still, upon his return, Wilson will factor in as part of the Gators’ receiving corps. Or, by season’s end, Wilson might be their biggest factor as a target as the in-state product starts his college career in The Swamp.

“I believe he’s going to have (a massive impact) for Florida this year,” said McShay.
