The Florida Gators won their second game of the season on Sunday, defeating in-state rivals Florida State. The Seminoles had a seven-game winning streak in the series but it was broken with a 77-51 loss in Gainseville.

After the game, Florida head coach Mike White walked into the locker room to celebrate with his team. He was trounced in water before giving a speech about how the best is yet to come for this Gator team.

Toward the end, Keyontae Johnson was given a game ball, despite never playing. Last season against the Seminoles, Johnson collapsed on the floor and is still on the road to recovery. You can watch the full video below.

Keyontae Johnson not medically cleared yet

Johnson has yet to be cleared to return to playing basketball. Edgar Thompson of the Orlando SentinelĀ said in JulyĀ that until the possibility of a heart malfunction is ruled out, physical activity is out of the picture for Johnson.

ā€œThat’s why they’re doing tests, that’s why it’s longer than expected,ā€ Johnson said. They just don’t know. They don’t know if it was my heart or it could be something else. It was just a freak incident. They’re just trying to figure it out to make sure I’m fine before they clear me.ā€

Even though he is still in the recovery process, Johnson promised he will play basketball again. Although there is not a date that has been circled for a return, the Florida player is confident in himself.

ā€œI don’t know if it will be here, but I’m for sure going to play basketball again,ā€ Johnson said. ā€œJust taking it day by day, going to see doctors and everything. They really haven’t given me a timeline yet.ā€

During his career at Florida, Johnson averaged 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Coming out of high school, he was a four-star prospect on the On3 Consensus out of IMG Academy.
