Florida State drops to 0-3 to open season with home loss to Troy
The Florida State men’s basketball squad is off to a rough start to their season. After losing their first two games of the year, at home to Stetson and on the road to UCF, the Seminoles have lost another non-conference home game, this time to Troy. Florida State fell in front of their home fans 79-72 to a now 3-0 Troy Trojans squad.
The second home loss of the season for the Seminoles comes as a shocker to all aware of the program’s recent history. Heading into the season, since 2015, Florida State was a jaw-dropping 88-9. In the last six-plus seasons under Leonard Hamilton, since February 27, 2015, Florida State sported a winning percentage of .907 at home. To add insult to injury with this loss, before the start of this season, the Seminoles lost just two non-conference home games since the 2016-2017 season.

The Seminoles put up an impressive fight despite being limited to just seven players on the night. Florida State was paced by their guard and the current team leader in points per game, Darin Green Jr, who had 24 points on 7-11 shooting from the field. The Seminoles second leading scorer and teams leading rebounder, Cam’ron Fletcher, recorded a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. Caleb Mills also added 14 points of his own, but outside of that, Florida State struggled to score, resulting in their seven-point loss on their home floor.
Things are not looking good early on for Florida State and Hamilton. But the team must quickly bounce back because they will face an even tougher non-conference opponent on Friday. Later in the week, the Seminoles’ in-state rival from Gainesville, FL, the Florida Gators, will roll into Tallahassee for an evening showdown. The Gators will be looking to bounce back after their first loss of the year to Florida Atlantic.
