Former Florida State star Jameis Winston will have his jersey retired during the first quarter of Saturday’s home game against North Alabama, the program announced on Thursday.

Winston helped lead Florida State to a 14-0 record and a BCS national championship over Auburn in 2013.

“The retirement of Jameis’ jersey will certainly be a great event on our campus,” Florida State athletics director Michael Alford said. “He had a huge impact on Florida State football, and his place as one of our all-time greats is unquestioned. I know we all look forward to seeing his No. 5 becoming a permanent part of Doak Campbell Stadium.”

Jameis Winston arrived at Florida State as a star prospect and did not disappoint, quickly making his mark.

He became the first freshman ever to win the ACC Player of the Year honors after he had a season with 40 touchdown passes and 4,057 passing yards. Florida State’s remarkable run resulted in the program’s third national title.

And Winston was back as a sophomore to follow up in 2014.

He was a little more up and down, throwing for 3,907 yards with 25 touchdowns against 18 interceptions. Still, Florida State managed to reach the College Football Playoffs for the first time ever, losing in the semifinal to Oregon.

Jameis Winston left school early to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. By the time he did he had racked up scores of accolades in college.

Among his recognitions were the 2013 Heisman Trophy, the 2013 Walter Camp Award, the 2013 Manning Award, the 2013 Davey O’Brien Award, the 2013 AP Player of the Year, the 2013 ACC Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year, a 2013 consensus All-American and the 2014 ACC Athlete of the Year.

Winston finished his college career with 7,964 passing yards and 65 touchdowns.
