5-star WR Jaime Ffrench (Sam Spiegelman, On3)

Jacksonville Mandarin five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench decommitted from Alabama on Jan. 14, re-opening his recruitment after being pledged to the Crimson Tide for around six months.

Florida State has always been viewed as a contender for the elite wideout, even when he was a part of Bama’s 2025 recruiting class. After coming back on the board, Ffrench is in Tallahassee this weekend visiting FSU.

With signs pointing toward the Noles, Warchant’s Matt LaSerre has opted to log a pick in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) in favor of Florida State landing the 6-foot-2, 180 pounder.

Ffrench is the No. 14 overall prospect and No. 3 WR in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 2 player in Florida.

Plenty of schools pursuing Ffrench following decommitment

Ffrench has been a hot commodity in the Sunshine State this week. Kirby Smart, Mario Cristobal and Billy Napier have all made their way to Jacksonville to visit with the five-star. It’s Mike Norvell that’s got Ffrench on campus, however.

FSU’s 2025 class already features Ffrench’s teammate, three-star quarterback Tramell Jones. It’s still early in the grand scheme of Ffrench’s recruitment, but the Noles clearly have factors in their favor.

“I love the way (Norvell) recruits you, it’s hard to tell Florida State no, it’s hard to tell Coach Norvell no,” Ffrench told On3’s Sam Spiegelman earlier this month. “Tramell jokes around a lot and there’s a lot of Florida State stuff that we knick-knack about.”

Ffrench is also set to visit Miami next weekend. The Hurricanes are one of the many schools looking to make an impression on the receiver, but WRs coach Kevin Beard is showing him that he’s a major priority in Coral Gables.

“Miami, coach Beard, and coach (Mario) Cristobal have been on me a lot,” Ffrench told CaneSport. “I talked to coach Beard today (Monday) for a good hour or two. We’re on the phone for a while, and Miami hits me up very often. Miami’s definitely in (it) for sure.”

FSU looking for headliner in 2025 class

Norvell and the Seminoles are off to a smooth start in the 2025 cycle, possessing four commitments in the middle of January. Earlier this month, Cocoa (Fla.) four-star EDGE Javion Hilson flipped to FSU from Alabama. He’s the No. 33 recruit and No. 3 EDGE in the On3 Industry Ranking.

Jacksonville Raines four-star offensive tackle Solomon Thomas checks in as the No. 29 prospect and No. 6 OT in the cycle. He and Hilson are flanked by Jones and Sanford (Fla.) Seminole four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard.

With plenty of time to go until National Signing Day, the quartet equals the No. 6 class in the nation and the top-ranked ACC class in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. The addition of Ffrench would put FSU in a great position for another elite haul of recruits.
