The Tallahassee Regional has come to an end with the Florida State Seminoles sweeping and moving on to the Super Regional. They were able to do that despite head coach Link Jarrett getting ejected after a heated exchange during their most recent game against Mississippi State.

After the game, Jarrett admitted that his emotions got the better of him. It actually took him multiple innings to calm down and he’s grateful that his ejection didn’t come back to haunt Florida State in the game.

“Tremendous confidence,” Link Jarrett said. “My emotions, probably, went a little too far. I didn’t necessarily feel it in the moment. Maybe I did. I was so upset about it. It took me two or three innings to calm down.”

Jarrett, seemingly, had issues with calls throughout the game. Then, he’d be tossed over an appeal to third base that he argued. After a similar play the inning before, the third base umpire rang up Drew Faurot on a questionable swing call. That quickly drew a reaction from Jarrett, who came out of the dugout and let his feelings be known, ultimately leading to his ejection.

“And then you feel guilt,” Jarrett said. “Because if this doesn’t go right, I can’t tell you how I felt until we seem like we had a crack at it. You feel guilty because I’m not there. Things are out of rhythm because people that do certain jobs are no longer, I wasn’t there to do it. So, it sends things into a different direction. And we hadn’t been in that position. I don’t think I was ejected — maybe I’ve gotten ejected last year. So, I don’t think this staff, I’m usually good for one a year. This staff had not been through that. So, I felt tremendous guilt in there for the better part of that game. I really did.”

Florida State would be down 2-0 going into the 7th inning, struggling to score runs. That was when the rally started, though, with a Cal Fisher home run highlighting the five runs scored over two innings for the Seminoles.

“It was an awkward feeling for these guys. Like if I did something that impacted their ability to win this game and then look to tomorrow, the feeling of thinking you might have to come back here tomorrow. And did I do something to impact it? You feel guilty,” Jarrett said. “And then watching them chip away and battle back and create that beginning and capitalize on it, and then Myles [Bailey] capitalizes it. It’s an amazing feeling.”

Ultimately, the win was an emotional one following the emotional ejection for Link Jarrett. Along with the excitement of moving to the Super Regional,

“I saw some things watching it that I don’t normally see unless I go back and watch some of the video, obviously. So these guys are tough. They know what they’re doing. It really nothing changed because I wasn’t out there. And that’s what you think is going to happen,” Jarrett said. “But there was an hour and a half of, I felt very guilty because it wasn’t going our way, and if we had to come back and play and that impacted our ability to win the game tomorrow, that would have been tough to stomach.”

Link Jarrett will look to avoid any ejections in the Super Regional. There, Florida State is going to take on either Oregon State or USC.
