Mississippi State Bulldogs right-handed pitcher Cade O’Leary has committed to transfer to the Florida State Seminoles. He announced the move on social media after spending one season at Mississippi State.

O’Leary is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee. There, he played for Farragut High School and won three state championships before going on to attend Mississippi State as a freshman. According to Perfect Game, he was the 37th-ranked right-handed pitcher and the 131st-ranked player overall. Within the state, he was the third-ranked player and the top-ranked right-handed pitcher.

In his one season in Starkville, O’Leary was relatively limited in his playing time. He appeared in two games. During that time, he pitched two total innings. He also allowed two hits and gave up two runs, though neither of them was an earned run. On top of that, he struck out five batters in those two innings. Those games were against Queens and Southern. So, while it was a brief run, there was a major flash of talent there.

Cade O’Leary has also pitched in the New England Collegiate Baseball Summer League, pitching for Newport in 2025. There, he’s pitched 8.0 innings and has a 4.50 ERA with 13 strikeouts.

It was a difficult season in 2025 for Mississippi State. After a slow start to the season, the school made the decision to fire head coach Chris Lemonis. He’d be replaced by interim Justin Parker, who oversaw a successful turnaround and led the Bulldogs to an NCAA Regional. There, they’d travel to Tallahassee and get eliminated. Following their elimination, the program hired Brian O’Connor away from Virginia to be its next head coach.

Now, Cade O’Leary is set to play for Link Jarrett and the Florida State Seminoles. There, he will hope to continue to develop into a major role in the program. He’ll also work closely with pitching coach Micah Posey, as he tries to live up to his obvious potential.

As a program, Florida State is coming off a strong 2025 season. It was the Seminoles’ third season under Jarrett and they went 42-16 and 17-10 in ACC play. That was good enough to host an NCAA Regional. There, Florida State beat Mississippi State twice on their way to winning the Regional. However, it fell in the Super Regional to Oregon State.
