It’s been a long journey for running back Roydell Williams as he’s battled injuries since getting to the Florida State Seminoles. That kept him out of all but four games last season, and now, as Mike Norvell shared, he’s battling a new injury.

Following Week 1, Mike Norvell shared an injury update on Roydell Williams. In it, he admitted that Williams is going to miss some time. However, he was vague regarding how much time and what the issue is that Williams is dealing with.

“A little bit of injury news,” Mike Norvell said. “Roydell Williams will miss a period of time. The overall extent of that, we’ll see, but I absolutely hate it for the young man. It’s not something that we’re expecting to stretch into anything for the season, but he will miss a period of time this week.”

Roydell Williams transferred from Alabama, where he spent four seasons, to Florida State ahead of the 2024 season. However, he would be hampered by what was, at the time, an undisclosed injury. So, when he returned for this season, the hope was that he could avoid similar issues.

Week 1 opened against Williams’ former team. In that game, he had six carries for 14 yards. That came in a winning effort, but at the expense of another injury.

“Obviously, I just hate for him to miss anything,” Norvell said. “Because I thought he was a great factor in the game the other day. The 4th down run there on our own end of the field, he showed power, and he shows toughness, and he was definitely a great contributor in that win. With that, we’ll continue to move forward.”

Mike Norvell raves about ‘heart’ Florida State showed vs. Alabama

Florida State pulled off the upset of Week 1 when the Seminoles beat Alabama. After the game, Mike Norvell praised his team for the heart they played with.

“Our players rose to the challenge. I thought you saw great heart, just the way that they, we’ve talked all year, and I’ve used the buzzwords of edge and desperation, that comes from the heart. And you saw heart tonight,” Norvell said.

“You saw a team that absolutely loved playing this game together and were physically dominant, emotionally together and they responded, because it wasn’t a perfect game. We talked about that as a team. This is the first step. But it was a big step. Now we’ve gotta go and get better. We have to continue to improve. We’re gonna enjoy tonight.”
