Coaches are out on the recruiting trail to kick off February, and the staff at Florida State is no exception. Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell visited Port Saint Lucie (Fla.) Vero Beach 2025 four-star linebacker Tarvos Alford on Thursday.

Alford is the nation’s No. 59 overall prospect and No. 9 linebacker in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 8. recruit in Florida.

On3 ranks Alford higher than the other three major recruiting services. He is the No. 46 overall prospect and No. 8 linebacker in the 2025 On300.

Alford had the chance to talk with Seminoles linebackers coach Randy Shannon during an October visit.

“It’s good. We just talked last night,” Alford told Warchant. “We talk almost every week, and he has a great relationship with my parents. [The message is] that I’m a priority and he really wants to coach me.”

Trio of schools standing out to Tarvos Alford

Earlier this week, Alford spoke with On3’s Chad Simmons about which schools have separated themselves from the pack.

MiamiOhio State and UCF have raised the bar,” Alford told On3. “My options are still open, but those schools are up there.”

Alford visited Miami and UCF in January and is planning to return to Ohio State in the spring. The Buckeyes currently lead for Alford in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with an 89% chance of receiving his commitment.

Florida State 2025 class

Mike Norvell & Co. are off to a hot start in the 2025 recruiting cycle, currently ranking No. 7 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings with four commits.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines top-30 offensive tackle Solomon Thomas leads the way for the Seminoles. He’s joined by Cocoa (Fla.) top-35 EDGE Javion Hilson, Sanford (Fla.) Seminole four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard and Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin three-star quarterback Tramell Jones.

Hilson joined the class earlier this month, flipping from Alabama following Nick Saban’s retirement.

“I like the atmosphere and the fan base,” Hilson told On3. “My dad is a big Florida State fan and I grew up watching them and it’s close to home. I am a Florida boy and they’ve been recruiting me the heaviest ever since I committed to Alabama. Also, I can fit the best in their defense 4-2-5 as a true defensive end.”
