Thomas Castellanos injury update: Mike Norvell believes health is ‘very manageable’

Florida State coach Mike Norvell provided an update on the ankle injury to quarterback Thomas Castellanos after a 66-10 victory against Kent State on Saturday. Castellanos suffered the injury in the first half and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Norvell revealed that he doesn’t believe the injury to be serious in nature. However, the coach added that the team will continue to evaluate Castellanos throughout the next week.
“He came off under his own power, but you don’t like to see that with any individual,” Norvell said. “They were able to get him checked out. We’ll see where it progresses going into this week, but I was glad to see him back and moving around. I think it’s gonna be something that’s very manageable moving forward.”
The injury occurred late in the second quarter just before a weather delay was called. After throwing a pass, Castellanos was rolled up on by multiple defenders. Per Warchant.com, he walked with a slight limp to the locker room.
The Seminoles led 42-7 at the time of Castellanos’ injury, so there was really no need for him to return. He ended the contest 10-of-13 passing for 205 yards and one interception along with 54 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Freshman quarterback Kevin Sperry entered in relief of the injured Castellanos, marking the first game action of his young career. Brock Glenn also got some action in the game as the Seminoles secured the easy victory.

With the win, Florida State improved to 3-0 on the young season. But all the attention postgame was on the health of their star QB.
Castellanos is in his first season with Florida State after transferring from Boston College this offseason. He immediately put himself on the national radar by leading FSU to a victory against Alabama in Week 1 while throwing for 151 yards and rushing for another 78 with one touchdown.
So far this season, Castellnos has thrown for 594 yards and five touchdowns with one interception in addition to 139 yards rushing and three touchdowns on the ground. The Seminoles will certainly hope he can be at full health with them getting ready to open up ACC play next week against Virginia.
Thomas Castelanos’ status will be worth monitoring throughout the week as we await more updates on his injury prior to that game. He’ll have a short turnaround for the contest against the Cavaliers, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Friday in Charlottesville, Virginia.
