Tommy Castellanos injury update: Florida State QB will not return to game vs. Kent State

Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos exited Saturday afternoon’s game against Kent State near the end of the first half with an apparent ankle injury. Per the ACC Network broadcast, he will NOT return for the second half in Tallahassee.
It’s highly unlikely Castellanos would have played much in the second half anyway, as the Seminoles lead 42-7 just before halftime. Although he was ruled out, he jogged out of the locker room onto the sideline to spend the second half standing with teammates.
“Right before the weather delay, Tommy Castellanos went down and was being evaluated for a lower-body injury,” said ACC Network sideline reporter Victoria Arlen. “He will not return to the game.”
The injury occurred late in the second quarter just before a weather delay was called. After throwing a pass, Castellanos was rolled up on by multiple defenders. Per Warchant.com, he walked with a slight limp to the locker room.
Prior to his exit, Castellanos was enjoying another big outing. He completed 10/13 passes for 205 yards, no scores and one interception. He seemed well on his way to the first 300-plus passing yard performance of his career. With the Seminoles seemingly rolling, it’s very well possible that he could not return to the game.
Freshman quarterback Kevin Sperry entered in relief of the injured Castellanos, marking the first game action of his young career.

“You know, I know you guys have asked a lot of questions about Tommy since he’s been here and, you know, I think, probably every time that I’ve answered, I talk about the investment he’s making off the field. I talk about, you know, what he’s doing pouring into his teammates. You know, he really is a guy that, when he steps on the field, you know, ten guys on offense are better,” Norvell said.
“He’s got great energy. But it’s not just what he says, and that’s where people can get caught up, because somebody’s not afraid to talk and, you know, put thoughts out there. I mean, he does it with his actions. If Tommy didn’t say a word, you would still feel the way he plays.”
“I’m grateful that, you know, he’s willing to put himself out there, and we’ve got a lot of guys that have showed up on this team that, you know, even in the course of sometimes making, you know, a misstep or a mistake or getting beat on a play that they’re not playing back. They’re pushing forward.”
No. 7 Florida State is looking at a short week ahead, as it will play at Virginia Friday night. The ‘Noles look to improve to 5-0 for the second time in three seasons.
