One of the top pass-catchers in the 2025 class is in Tallahassee this weekend.

Florida State is hosting Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy four-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon for a spring visit. The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder has also already locked in a June official visit with the Seminoles.

McCutcheon is the No. 83 overall prospect and No. 9 WR in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 16 player in Texas.

On3 ranks McCutcheon higher than other recruiting services. He checks in as the No. 64 recruit overall in the 2025 On300.

This the wideout’s third trip to FSU. Last month, On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons said that Mike Norvell’s program was one of three schools treating the four-star like a top priority heading into a busy spring.

“It was great to see that Florida State was a great competitor in college football last year and was able to go 13-0. But, it is not as much about that. It is more about (head) coach (Mike) Norvell and (wide receivers) coach (Ron) Dugans and the connection that they have with me,” McCutcheon told On3. “I was able to go up to a camp and have them coach me during one-on-ones and other drills. It made me feel a deep connection with them and I really enjoyed it while I was up there. I went for a football game too and I liked how the environment was. That was a game changer.”

Official visits to Ohio State, USC and Texas are also in the cards for McCutcheon. Each of the aforementioned programs, along with Florida, SMU, Stanford and Tennessee, made his top eight in February.

“It’s about the people and the coaches there,” McCutcheon said of his top schools. “They have come to my school and I have talked with them and connected with them. I also like how they are with my family. These are definitely some of the top schools that do that. What piques my interest at these schools compared to the other schools that are in my top eight is how things run at the programs.”

Florida State Class Breakdown

Only four prospects are committed to Norvell and his staff thus far, but three of the pledges are blue-chip (four and five-star) recruits and all four hail from The Sunshine State.

The quartet of FSU commits are split on offense and defense. The current headliner in the class is Jacksonville Raines four-star interior offensive lineman Solomon Thomas — who ranks No. 21 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking.

“I wanted to make the decision for a good little minute now,” Thomas told Warchant after his December commitment. “I actually wanted to commit the day after they had said that Florida State wasn’t going to go to the playoffs, which I was kind of upset about because I was rooting for them. … It hurt me, so I was like, ‘OK, I’m gonna make it to where they can’t count us out again.”

On the offensive side, Thomas is flanked by Jacksonville Mandarin three-star quarterback Tramell Jones. The 6-foot, 185-pound signal-caller may be just the No. 29 QB in the cycle, but his stock has continued to rise since his pledge to FSU in April 2023.

On defense, Cocoa four-star EDGE Javion Hilson is a former Alabama pledge who joined the fold in Tallahassee in January following the retirement of Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban. He is a top-50 overall recruit. Sanford Seminole four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard is also committed to FSU and is the No. 33 player at his position.
