2022 Florida State athlete commit Sam McCall had a big time kick return for Lake Gibson in a nationally televised matchup against Lowndes (GA.).

McClain’s return came on the opening play of the game, kicking off the high scoring affair.

Lowndes defeated Lake Gibson 58-47 in a matchup broadcasted nationally on ESPNU.

Lake Gibson features McCall as well as 2023 five-star defensive back Cormani McClain and 2022 Utah three-star running back commit Jaylon Glover. Lowndes is headlined by 2022 Miami quarterback commit Jaccuri Brown.

In the win, Brown completed 13-of-19 passes for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns. Brown also had 20 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground.

Lowndes running backs Jacarre Fleming and Chase Belcher combined for 243 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

McCall is having a strong start to his senior campaign, after catching 52 passes for 903 yards and 10 touchdowns, while recording 18 tackles and four interceptions on defense last season. A one-time Florida commit, McCall decommitted from the Gators early in 2021 and committed to Florida State in February. McCall holds 15 total offers.

McCall visited Florida State three times unofficially in June, mixing in visits to LSU and South Carolina in the month as well.

McCall visits Florida State once again this weekend for the Seminoles matchup with Notre Dame, this time as an official visitor. This weekend projects to be a very important recruiting weekend for the Seminoles who also hosts five-star athlete commit Travis Hunter Jr as well as major targets like wide receiver Kevin Coleman and tight end Jaleel Skinner.

Sam McCall’s five-star teammate

McCall’s teammate, Cormani McClain, notched his 14th interception in 11 games on Friday. The five-star junior has a Top-5 of Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Miami and Ohio State. McClain holds 25 total offers.

McClain is the No. 5-ranked player in the 2023 class. Here’s what On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power thinks of McClain.

“McClain checks all the boxes as a rising junior cornerback prospect,” Power said. “First off, he’s a great two-way player on Friday nights. McClain shows advanced ball skills with the ability to high-point and come down with the football in contested situations. He can locate and track the ball over his shoulder. At corner, he’s instinctive and able to position his body while running with receivers. The game moves slow for McClain. He’s able to read quarterbacks and jump routes, coming down with seven picks as a sophomore. He’s already a dominant two-way player as a sophomore.
