Thomas Sorber, a four-star center in the class of 2024, has committed to Georgetown.

The 6-foot-9, 250-pound junior out of Philadelphia (Pa.) Archbishop Ryan chose the Hoyas over offers from Miami, Providence, and Villanova.

Sorber discussed his commitment to Georgetown with On3.

“I chose Georgetown because when I first stepped on that campus, it just felt like home,” he said. “It’s a great program for both basketball and academics.”

What are the Hoyas getting in Sorber, in his own words?

“I would say I’m like a hard-working big that can mostly do whatever the coach wants me to do. Georgetown is getting a DOG.”

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Sorber ranks as the No. 67 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He’s also the nation’s No. 6 center and the No. 3 player in the state of Pennsylvania. On3’s evaluators are even high on Sorber, ranking him No. 51 nationally.

Reclassification?

Sorber is currently apart of the 2024 class, where he sits with fellow four-star commitment Kayvaun Mulready, who recently flipped his commitment from Providence to Georgetown when Ed Cooley changed jobs.

However, there is a solid chance that Sorber will reclassify, joining the 2023 class and be apart of the Hoyas program this fall. A public decision regarding this will likely be made after the conclusion of EYBL’s Peach Jam, which ends in early July. *To be eligible for Peach Jam, Sorber has to be a member of the 2024 class.

If Sorber decides to make the jump to 2023, he would be sixth new addition to the Hoyas’ incoming class. Sorber would join fellow four-star freshman Drew Fielder, as well as four transfers: Dontrez Styles from North Carolina, Jayden Epps from Illinois, Rowan Brumbaugh from Texas, and Ismael Massoud from Kansas State.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Sources tell On3 that barring something unforeseen, Sorber will remain in the class of 2024 and not reclassify.

Sorber Scouting Report

“The size stands out immediately with Thomas Sorber. At 6-9, pushing 6-10, he has long arms and big hands with a sturdy base. He carves out space very well on the block, setting up a big target and using his hips and feet to establish and maintain position. Sorber has good touch around the basket. He does a good job of using the rim to protect the ball when necessary or going straight up and dunking it with authority. Sorber is a good rebounder, doing his work early to establish position and using his length and strong hands to go up and get it. Want to see him extend his range more, be more consistent from the free throw line. He has lost considerable weight recently and you can tell in how he moves. There is more upside to go here, but he is already proving to be a force on the low block.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
