Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt has been mocked all over the first round of NFL Draft projections. He seems likely to be taken in the first round, but there is a lot of time for that to be determined.

This week, the NFL Scouting Combine is giving players like Wyatt another opportunity to improve their stocks. On Friday, Wyatt delivered an epic quote when discussing his love for the game of football.

“I get to hit people! I can’t just get up out this podium and hit one of y’all, I’d go straight to jail,” Wyatt started. “But you get to meet new people too, man. Definitely get to meet new guys, meet their families, kids. And like you just get a lot of connections, a lot of networking.”

This past season, Wyatt broke out as a star on Georgia’s historically dominant defense. One the way to a national championship, Wyatt totaled 30 tackles with seven tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. In his collegiate career with Georgia, Wyatt racked up 113 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and three passes defended.

Wyatt has seen a rise on NFL big boards

In ESPN NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper’s latest mock draft, he had Wyatt being selected with the 25th overall pick by the Buffalo Bills. Ever since the Senior Bowl, Wyatt has been on an upward trajectory. ESPN experts Todd McShay and Jeremy Fowler went in-depth on Wyatt’s rise after the Senior Bowl, which they believe solidified his status as a first round pick.

“It was interesting to see Wyatt command the attention of spectators this week,” Fowler said. “His power and quickness were evident.”

“Some defensive linemen are all hands,” added McShay. “Some are all about quickness and speed. But Wyatt ties his feet and hands together so well. His feet are always moving while he’s working on blockers with his upper-body strength. He was already in the first-round conversation coming into the Senior Bowl, but he put a stamp on it this week.”

There are a few quality defensive linemen in this year’s draft class. And on a loaded defensive front at Georgia, it would be easy to overlook Wyatt. But McShay called Wyatt “the most consistent performer” on that unit for the Bulldogs, and believes that he may be among the best in this year’s draft.
