Georgia announces contract extension for Mike White through 2031

Mike White has been a fantastic addition for Georgia since taking over the Bulldogs program in 2022. Now, he’ll be sticking around for quite some time in Athens.
The longtime SEC leader will head up Georgia for the foreseeable future. The Bulldogs announced a contract extension through 2031 for their head men’s basketball coach on Friday morning.
White’s first head coaching gig came at Louisiana Tech. In four seasons with the Bulldogs, he amassed a 101-40 record. He brought them to the NIT in three of the four years he coached the program.
Florida took notice and hired White in 2015. He’d spend seven seasons with the Gators, amassing a record of 142-88. The Elite Eight in 2017 was the highlight of his tenure in Gainesville.
As Georgia looked to rejuvenate its college basketball program, the Bulldogs turned to White in 2022. It’s been a steady incline for the program since his arrival, as White’s gone from missing the postseason entirely to making the Semifinals of the NIT to most recently competing in the NCAA Tournament.

Georgia fell to Gonzaga in the first round, but they seem headed in the right direction. That’s why the Bulldogs decided to make him right contractually ahead of his fourth season with the program.
“Our teams are going to play very, very hard. We’re going to be disciplined. We’re going to be selfless. We’re going to play to win. We’re going to recruit hard. We’re going to coach hard. We’re going to have successful, productive practices,” White said, back during his introductory press conference. “We’re going to have a family environment. We’re going to love one another in our program. We’re going to be brutally honest with one another. We’re going to grow as young men. We’re all going to be better leaders every day.
“… This is now the best basketball league in college basketball. We have the potential to get it done. We are going to get it done, and then hopefully in a few years I’m being asked questions about maintaining it.”
Moving forward, Georgia is hoping White can continue the ascension of the Bulldogs in the SEC and nationally in the college basketball world. Whether or not he can get it done remains to be seen, but the university is certainly hoping they’re backing the right horse with this move.
