Brock Bowers jokes about difficulty understanding Brock Vandagriff’s southern accent

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers had a long journey from Nappa, California to Athens, Georgia, but that did not stop him from having arguably the best season a true freshman tight end has ever had in college football history. Bowers spoke recently about his transition from the east coast to the west coast during UGA’s fall camp.
“It was a big change coming here, like culture wise and the level of play from obviously from high school to college, but there was nothing that really could have prepared me. Once I got here I had to kind of just had to work in and just do my stuff every day,” Bowers said.
Bowers level of play last season was second to none, as he lead the Bulldogs in receiving and broke nearly every tight end school record in the books all the way to a National Championship win. Bowers also ended the season with plenty of hardware other than the National Championship trophy, finishing the season on the AP and Coaches’ All-SEC First Team, a True Freshman All-America by ESPN and the Athletic, All-America First Team by ESPN, The Athletic, and USA Today, and won a multitude of national and conference freshman or newcomer of the year awards.
It was clear Bowers understood what needed to be done between the white lines last season, but off the field, he had some more adjusting to do.
“Sometimes I can’t understand people, like the accents sometimes, some of the food. It’s just little different things here and there,” Bowers said.

Bowers is one of three UGA players from sunny Californa that are learning to adjust to southern culture. But thankfully for Bowers, he has some teammates that are Georgia natives showing him the ropes and the ways of the peach state.
“I have Chaz Chambliss, who’s from Carrolton, that’s my roommate and Brock Vandagriff. Who’s both like the most southern accent talking dudes, and they’ve rubbed off on me a lot,” Bowers said.
Bulldog fans are hoping that Bowers’ play on the field doesn’t change one bit from last season, but off the field they may hear a slight change in his accent his next few years in Athens.
