Georgia EDGE Marvin Jones Jr. injures shoulder, will miss spring practice

Georgia football just suffered a big blow for spring practice. According to On3’s DawgsHQ, former five-star recruit Marvin Jones Jr. has suffered an injury that will require him to miss all of the Bulldogs’ spring session in 2023.
“One of the top signees from Georgia’s 2022 class will be sidelined for his first spring with the program. Sophomore outside linebacker Marvin Jones Jr. recently underwent surgery to correct a shoulder ailment according to persons with knowledge of the situation. Those same sources tell DawgsHQ that Jones is expected to be ready by the start of preseason camp but he will miss spring drills, which start next month.”
Doesn’t seem like the injury will linger and impact any of his actual season, but you never know with injuries. Plus, missing a whole year of spring ball as a true sophomore will have an effect one way or another.
As a true freshman this past season on a loaded title-winning team, Jones didn’t get a ton of snaps. Yeah, he’s a five-star monster off the edge, but remember: Georgia has pallets of those guys shipped into Athens every year. They churn out high-level pass rushers and first round picks off that defensive line on a yearly basis nowadays. Marvin Jones Jr. will get his time in the sun, but it just wasn’t this year.

However, that’s not to say he was a non-factor. Jones did appear in 13 out of 15 games for the Dawgs, recording just four total tackles and one sack. Those numbers ought to balloon if he returns to the field fully healthy next fall. With another swath of future pros making their exit, it will be Jones’ time to step in and maintain the defensive tradition.
Rough news out of Athens on a Monday. Wishing nothing but a successful and speedy recovery for the Georgia super-talent.
