Georgia LHP Alton Davis enters the NCAA transfer portal

Georgia pitcher Alton Davis has entered the NCAA transfer portal for a second time, On3 has learned. He previously spent two seasons at Alabama before transferring to join the Bulldogs.

Alton Davis struck out 27 and walked 12 during his limited action. Opponents hit .293 off him.
Prior to his stint at Georgia, Davis spent two years at Alabama, where he contributed in various capacities. He posted a 4-2 record with a team-high four saves in 2024.
During that 2024 campaign, Alton Davis racked up a 5.61 ERA. He served as the team’s closer and earned a spot on the Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List. He recorded 38 strikeouts, while giving up 17 walks and a .273 batting average against.
A year earlier, Davis made 25 relief appearances as a freshman. He went 1-2 with a 5.35 ERA, picking up eight saves on the season.

Georgia adds pitcher out of the portal
While Alton Davis is headed out, the Bulldogs have already made some moves to shore up the pitching rotation. Georgia landed a commitment from Matt Scott out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on Saturday via Instagram. Scott, a right-handed pitcher, previously played for the Stanford Cardinal. He will now move across the country to Athens, working under head coach Wes Johnson.
“Looking forward to the next step,” Scott said. “Thank you to the Georgia staff for believing in me! #GoDawgs“
Scott did not have the best numbers this past season at Stanford. After starting in 11 games, he finished with a 6.02 ERA over 52.1 innings pitched. Opposing batters recorded 67 hits, four of which were home runs, and got 37 runs across the plate. Strikeout numbers were way down too, totaling 56 after hitting triple digits in 2023.
