Georgia offensive lineman Nyier Daniels was arrested on multiple charges on Sunday morning. He was hit with four felonies.

According to a report from On3’s Anthony Dasher, Daniels was charged with two second-degree cruelty to children charges, attempting to elude police officers and affixing materials that reduce or increase light transmission through windows. He also faced a handful of misdemeanor traffic charges.

Nyier Daniels was in jail on Sunday morning, according to Dasher. A Georgia spokesman commented on the arrest.

“We are aware of the charges and are currently in the process of gathering additional information,” UGA spokesman Steven Drummond said. “This is a pending legal matter, and we will not have further comment at this time.”

On3’s Jake Rowe reported that Nyier Daniels is no longer with the team. He did play in the team’s 35-3 win over Charlotte this weekend.

In total, Daniels was charged with four felonies and nine misdemeanors during his run-in with police. Details of the incident were not immediately available outside of the charges he faces.

Georgia has had a significant history of driving-related incidents in recent years. The most high-profile involved the deaths of staffer Chandler LeCroy and football player Devin Willock.

In that incident, star Jalen Carter was issued an arrest warrant. He faced charges of reckless driving and street racing, but he pleaded no contest to the charges and received 12 months probation, a fine and community service.

Carter has since been sued by both the Willock family and Victoria Bowles, a former Georgia staffer who survived the car wreck. Suffice it to say driving incidents have been heavily scrutinized ever since at Georgia. So Nyier Daniels erred in a way that would have put him under heavy scrutiny.

As Rowe writes, “in the not-so-distant past, Georgia has elected to move on from players due to driving-related incidents, especially when those incidents garner multiple charges. The Bulldogs parted ways with fellow 2024 offensive line signee Marques Easley this spring after he was involved in a traffic accident and ran his car into the side of a house. right around the same time, Nitro Tuggle was caught excessively speeding and driving recklessly in Athens-Clarke County. He is no longer with the program and entered the portal during the spring window.”
