“I’d like to take my officials around that time,” Merklinger told On3’s Chad Simmons on Sept. 26. “Hopefully, I can make a decision during the spring. If something does permit where I have to back it up, I said I probably won’t commit early, but if I just feel like it’s the right time, I might do it earlier. But I imagine it’ll be during the spring.”

Georgia already has a commitment from Avon (Conn.) Avon Old Farms four-star quarterback Ryan Puglisi in its 2024 recruiting class. The Bulldogs are also recruiting Chandler (Ariz.) Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Dylan Raiola.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Tennessee is leading for Merklinger’s commitment at 36.6%.

Sees the field well, finding open receivers while under pressure. Shows the ability to quickly react and escape from pass rushers.
