The national championship has been a defensive battle through three quarters. However, the Georgia defensive line might have taken a hit in the third period.

Jalen Carter went down with an apparent ankle injury and walked slowly off the field. It didn’t appear to be too major, though. He was the fullback when Georgia scored a touchdown for its first lead of the game.

Carter has been a staple of the staunch Georgia defensive line this year. The sophomore was a five-star recruit from the Class of 2020 and the No. 2 recruit from the state of Florida, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The Bulldogs took the 13-9 lead into the fourth quarter of the College Football Playoff national championship.

Injury update in on Alabama receiver Jameson Williams

The injury update is in on Alabama receiver Jameson Williams. The junior receiver will not return after went down in the second quarter of the national championship game Monday with a non-contact injury, per ESPN’s Chris Low.

After a short stint in the medical tent, Williams emerged and began walking on the sideline on his own power. He then went straight to the locker room with the trainers.

At the time of his injury, Williams had four receptions for 65 yards, the latter of which led all Alabama receivers.

The injury was a huge blow for the Crimson Tide, who were already without star receiver John Metchie III. Look for receiver Slade Bolden and tight end Cameron Latu to step up in their absence.

A transfer from Ohio State, Williams broke out in 2021 after having just nine receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns last year. He was Alabama’s leading receiver with 75 receptions for 1,507 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging an incredible 20.1 yards per catch.

Metchie led the team in receptions with 96 for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns. According to ESPN Stats and Info, entering the national title game on Monday, Alabama had run just 29 offensive plays all season without both Williams and Metchie on the field when the score was within 21 (the condition helps mitigate the factor of garbage-time snaps).

Bolden is the the third-leading receiver for the Crimson Tide, though his numbers pale in comparison to Metchie and Williams. He had 35 catches for 364 yards and three touchdowns entering Monday’s game. Bolden finished the first half against Georgia with six catches for 37 yards.
