Dunking is in Jake Wilkins‘ blood. In the second half of Georgia‘s showdown against Xavier on Friday, the Bulldogs’ freshman posterized Musketeers forward Jovan Milicevic. ESPN’s John Schriffen couldn’t control his excitement on the call.

“Now Wilkins rising up with the flush! Doing it like his daddy!” Schriffen shouted on the broadcast.

The standout forward is the son of Dominique Wilkins, a Hall of Fame member and two-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion. In fact, Dominique, who also attended Georgia, was known as “The Human Highlight Film” for his spectacular feats of athleticism.

Now, Jake Wilkins is following in his father’s footsteps, and putting on a show in the process. Wilkins was the No. 45 overall player and No. 11 small forward in the 2025 recruiting cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.

Wilkins has had an explosive start to his collegiate career. Through five games, he’s averaging 12.6 points and 4.0 rebounds in just 16.4 minutes per game. Moreover, Wilkins is shooting a solid 48.6% from the field.

Wilkins’ jaw-dropping slam on Friday night isn’t the first highlight play as a Bulldogs. In Georgia’s blowout win over Morehead State earlier this month, Wilkins left fans stunned when he caught an alley-oop and finished it with a windmill jam. After the game, Georgia guard Jeremiah Wilkinson reflected on the high-flying play.

“I was flabbergasted,” Wilkinson said. “I knew he was going to dunk it because, you know, it’s Jake. But the windmill, I didn’t see that one coming. I was like, my jaw dropped, and I was stuck for a minute.

“Y’all haven’t seen anything yet,” Wilkinson added. “He has so much more to give in his first year of college basketball. I feel like he’s going to make the SportsCenter top ten countless times this year.”

Wilkins is more than a freak athlete. After the win, Georgia head coach Mike White raved about the young talent.

“Our fans probably enjoyed it, but it’s still just two points, I’ll take a shot at him,” White said with a laugh. “He’s an awesome kid to coach. He’s locked in, has positive energy, and he plays with joy. There’s an infectious motor.”

Wilkins has some work to do to live up to his father’s legacy. Wilkins will have plenty of opportunities to put his talent on full display later this season when Georgia enters conference play.
