Joel Klatt satisfied with CFP committee’s decision to make Georgia No. 1 team

After Georgia jumped Ohio State in the latest CFP rankings, Fox Sports’ college football analyst Joel Klatt endorsed the decision from the committee.
On a recent episode of the Joel Klatt Show, he agreed with the move despite Ohio State remaining undefeated. In his eyes, while Georgia started the season a bit slower than the last two years, they’ve really rounded into form and gotten back to full strength at the perfect time.
“Georgia moves to number one, totally fine with that,” remarked Klatt. “Georgia looks healthier, they look much better than what they did early in the season. They look more dominant, more consistent and they’ve evolved a little bit.”
Specifically, when it comes to this particular Bulldogs team, Klatt and his buddy Greg McElroy (former Alabama QB) see rookie quarterback Carson Beck’s progress as a reason to believe in this slightly different Georgia team still contending for a national championship.
“I thought Greg made a good point on the show talking about the way that they can throw the football, because Carson Beck does give them a little bit more in the passing game than what they’ve had in previous years. So they’ve evolved a little bit.”

Of course, there was also a pretty significant injury plaguing the Bulldogs in the second half of the season as superstar tight end Brock Bowers missed the last month-plus due to an ankle injury suffered back during the Vanderbilt game. However, he’s now back on the football field.
“Bowers is quietly back from his ankle surgery and he’s back on the field, so that’s a dangerous team who’s got a a heck of a win streak going,” added Joel Klatt, noting the reliability of Georgia as a top-ranked team.
“They’ve been number one in the country in the AP poll for — I think it’s 22 or 23 straight weeks weeks right now, which is second only to USC’s streak, which was in the mid-30s back there in the early 2000s. So Georgia moves to No. 1, great. You know, I’m totally fine with that. I think Georgia is a fantastic football team, a great football team. It’s going to be hard to beat them come down the stretch.”
No team was able to topple the Dawgs “down the stretch” in each of the last two seasons. Alabama will try to flip that narrative in Atlanta when the two teams meet a few weeks from now.
