After Brock Bowers went down in the second quarter vs. Vanderbilt with an apparent lower leg injury, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart confirmed that it’s an ankle sprain that has the Bulldog star sidelined at the moment.

Bowers was taken to the medical tent and then the locker room shortly after exiting the game with the injury. However, Smart was optimistic about his tight end when he spoke at halftime.

“Oh yeah, he was good. He was in good spirits,” Smart said of Bowers. “He’s got a little bit of an ankle sprain on the bottom part of his foot but he thinks he’ll be fine. Then we go X-ray and check it out.”

There was no word on whether Bowers could return in the second half or not.

Bowers suffered the injury after racing for a gain of 14 yards on the play out past a block from quarterback Carson Beck, but came up gimpy after being pushed out near the sideline. He took a brief minute to wobble onto the field before hitting a knee and motioning for trainers to come over.

After heading into the team’s injury tent, Brock Bowers was walked with a team trainer into the locker room.

The Georgia tight end is widely regarded as the top tight end in college football, so losing him for an extended period of time would be a significant blow for the Bulldogs.

So far this season Bowers has accounted for 37 catches for 545 yards and four touchdowns.

Multiple injuries to other Georgia players

The Bulldogs came away with a significant lead at halftime, but they certainly got banged up along the way as a slew of players went down at some point in the first two quarters, most notably Bowers.

However, the first guy to go down was defensive lineman Christen Miller, who went down after helping secure a run stop. He laid on the ground for a minute and was met by trainers but was able to walk off on his own.

Then, on the same drive as the Bowers injury, fellow offensive starters Kendall Milton and Xavier Truss both went down and exited the game. Milton was looked at by trainers while backup RBs finished out the half. Meanwhile, Truss came off the field following Milton’s narrow fourth down conversion on that series.

For Georgia, the end of this game can’t come quick enough as injuries continue to pile up.
