Sedrick Van Pran provides story behind hilarious Tate Ratledge nickname

Heading into Week 3 prep for South Carolina, Georgia center Sedrick Van Pran revealed the inspiration for right guard Tate Ratledge’s nickname, “Chuck.” Van Pran told reporters that “Chuck” is for UFC champion fighter Chuck Liddell whose mustache resembles Ratledge’s facial hair.
Ratledge has a mullet, and Liddell does not, however, the resemblance still shines through. Decide for yourself:
Ratledge is in his third season in Athens after signing as a top-50 prospect in the 2020 recruiting class. The Rome, Georgia native was the No. 41 prospect in the class and the No. 4 offensive tackle, according to the On3 Consensus.

After the Bulldogs took down Samford and Alabama narrowly beat Texas on the road, Georgia jumped the Tide in the AP’s top 25 for the No. 1 spot in the country. Along with the rest of the offense, Ratledge and Van Pran paved the way for 352 passing yards and 127 rushing yards in the 33-0 victory.
Kirby Smart comments on Georgia redzone failures
Despite holding on to a shutout versus Samford, the Bulldogs only put up 33 points. They failed to convert four of their seven redzone trips into touchdowns, instead, settling for field goals.
“Any time you get in the red zone for us, it’s a priority for the offense and defense to be elite in the red zone,” Smart said after the game. “We talked all offseason about our defense. Last year it was pretty good in the red zone. The offense didn’t score the touchdowns they needed to. They did that the first game and we didn’t today. We have to go back and watch the tape. We have to get better at that. Can’t get end games just kicking field goals.”
