Tre Phelps looks ahead to his role as a leader for Georgia in 2025

The 2024 Georgia Bulldogs season ended in the Super Regionals. Despite that disappointing end, there is still plenty to look forward to for the 2025 season, including the play of Tre Phelps.

Phelps spoke to the media following the Super Regional loss. There, he looked ahead to his role as a leader for Georgia in 2025. He also shared how much he was able to take away and learn from those around him this season.

“Just the knowledge,” Tre Phelps said. “I mean, you have guys like Charlie [Condon]. We have Coach Wes [Johnson]. We have guys like Corey Collins. Just being able to take things from each and every one of them to bring that back to next year’s team and go farther. I mean, that’s obviously the goal. I would just say taking bits and pieces and putting it into the locker room for next year to be successful.”

It was a productive freshman season at Georgia for Phelps. He played in 42 games and earned 34 starts. During that time, he hit .353 with a .441 OBP and a .699 slugging percentage. That went along with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs. On top of all of that, he had a .952 fielding percentage after only making two errors all season long.

In Georgia’s final game of the season, a loss in the Super Regional to NC State, Phelps stood out as one of the top players in the game. He went three for five at the plate while also recording two runs scored. Along with that, he hit a home run and had two RBIs in the 8-5 loss.

This came after Phelps went to Georgia as a top-tier prospect out of high school. A native of Kennesaw, Perfect Game rated him as the top third baseman in the state of Georgia and the second-ranked third baseman nationally. He also participated on the USA Baseball 18U National Team.

If there was any downside to Phelps’ season it was that he missed time due to an injury. Back in April, he injured his knee. Luckily, it was the kind of injury that he was able to return from.

In the end, it was a strong first season at Georgia for head coach Wes Johnson. Tre Phelps was a key piece of that and he’ll look to continue to be a key piece of it moving forward as he enters more of a leadership role.
