Will Muschamp has walked a winding road throughout his coaching career, but he’s enjoying his time with the Georgia Bulldogs at the moment.

The former Florida and South Carolina head coach originally joined Kirby Smart’s staff as an analyst and has worked his way up to the team’s co-defensive coordinator in the time since. Speaking with the media, Muschamp reminisced about his growth with the Bulldogs.

“No. Whether you’re the head coach or the coordinator or position coach or an analyst, do the best job in the job you have in your role in the organization, and Coach Smart does a great job of identifying what your job is, and this is your job description, and do it at a high level and let the chips fall where they may,” answered Muschamp, asked if he envisioned his time at Georgia working out the way it has. “And for some unfortunate circumstances, I ended up being on the field last year, and do the best job you can with the job you have.”

Alas, Will Muschamp is an example of how if you do your job and do it well, people will notice. Kirby Smart will continuing enjoying employing the former SEC head coach moving forward, until he inevitably lands another head coaching job in the future.

Will Muschamp takes hilarious shot at Kirk Herbstreit while looking back at 1993 Citrus Bowl

Getting ready to defend its national championship, Georgia has an unfamiliar opponent coming up next, Ohio State. The two traditional powers have only ever played once before, in the 1993 Citrus Bowl. Oddly enough, co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp played in that game for the Bulldogs.

Will Muschamp was asked about that game and used that as an opportunity to take a shot at current ESPN analyst and former Buckeye, Kirk Herbstreit

“It was a good win for the Dawgs,” Will Muschamp said.

“We had a pre-not game, but I guess a luncheon, and Herbstreit got up and threw a pass across the room, I knew we had a shot to win,” Will Muschamp laughed. “Make sure he knows I said that.”

Interestingly enough, that Citrus Bowl was largely dominated by the running game, so Herbstreit’s throwing ability wasn’t a huge factor in the game. A tie game going into the fourth, only Georgia found the endzone in the final quarter, giving the Dawgs a 21-14 win.

Will Muschamp played defensive back for Georgia between 1991 and 1994. During his senior season, he was even named team captain.

Expect more fireworks and higher stakes when these two meet for the Peach Bowl and a College Football Playoff semifinal game this season. With these two offenses, odds are that they’ll surpass 1993’s point total.
