Tulane, former Auburn transfer QB TJ Finley commits to Georgia State

Former Tulane transfer quarterback TJ Finley has committed to Georgia State. Finley entered the transfer portal in April but had not committed to a team before the season began. Now, he will join the Panthers as they head into Week 2.
Finley never played a snap at Tulane. He joined the team in December after spending the 2024 campaign at Western Kentucky, but entered the portal again just four month later.
Finley has had a winding path through college football. He began his collegiate career at LSU in 2020. He made five starts for the Tigers as a true freshman. He completed 80-of-his-140 pass attempts at LSU for 941 yards and five touchdowns, while throwing five interceptions.
After the season, Finley transferred to Auburn. He spent two seasons at Auburn, amassing 13 appearances and six starts.
He finished his time at Auburn with 1,258 passing yards and seven touchdowns, compared to five interceptions. Following the 2022 campaign, Finley hit the portal again, searching for a fresh start.
He landed at Texas State, where he had the best season of his career in 2023. Finley completed 67.4% of his pass attempts for the Bobcats, totaling 3,439 yards and 24 touchdowns, while only throwing eight interceptions.
Finley’s 3,439 passing yards were the most in program history. For his efforts, he was named an All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention. College football expert Phil Steele named an All-Sun Belt Fourth Team selection.

Once again, Finley transferred after the 2023 season, this time heading to Western Kentucky. Unfortunately for Finley, his action was limited for the team.
Finley started the first three games of the season for the Hilltoppers, but suffered an injury in Week 3 that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. In his three starts, Finley logged a combined 490 passing yards and a touchdown.
Now, Finley will look to find success at his sixth stop in college football. Georgia State’s quarterbacks were underwhelming in the team’s 63-7 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday.
In the defeat, Panthers quarterbacks Christian Veillieux and Cameran Brown combined for just 69 total passing yards, a touchdown and an interception. Perhaps Finley will be able to breathe new life into Georgia State’s offense.
It’s unclear when TJ Finley will make his debut for the Panthers. Georgia State’s next game is against Memphis on Sept. 6. The two teams will face off at 7 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPN+.
