On Monday, ESPN unveiled the NCAA Baseball Tournament bracket. While most teams celebrated when their name was called, Georgia Tech players were far from happy with the selection committee.

Despite winning the ACC regular season championship, the Yellow Jackets weren’t named one of the top 16 teams in the country. Thus, they aren’t hosting a Regional and, instead, will have to travel to Oxford, Mississippi, for the opening round of the tournament.

When the broadcast cut to a feed of Georgia Tech players following the announcement of the Oxford Regional, only a few Yellow Jackets were clapping and most of them stared forward with stone-cold demeanors. Check out the team’s icy reaction below.

Georgia Tech’s frustration isn’t entirely unfounded. The team boasts a 40-17 overall record and a 19-11 mark in conference play. Although the Yellow Jackets didn’t take home the ACC Tournament crown, they had a solid showing, reaching the tournament semifinals before being eliminated.

Georgia Tech’s players aren’t the only ones who thought they deserved to host a Regional. During an appearance on ESPN, Georgia Tech head coach Danny Hall weighed in on his team receiving a 2-seed.

“Any time this time of year you’re still playing, you’re excited,” Hall said. “I’m very proud of these guys sitting here behind me to win the ACC and we played a 30-game schedule and came out on top. And that’s a huge accomplishment for them and for our program.

“We kind of thought we might have a great chance to host being the league champion. But, I’m not in that room, and I know they have a really hard job to get the top 16 teams in there and allow them to host. But, our goals are still right in front of us.”

The arguable snub will only motivate Georgia Tech more as it heads into the postseason; not that it needed any more bulletin board material. The Yellow Jackets are already playing with extra passion every game because they know Danny Hall is retiring after this season.

Hall has been the head coach at Georgia Tech since 1994 and is a four-time ACC Coach of the Year. Hall’s players want to send him out on a high note.

“I’m very fortunate to have had that opportunity for 32 years,” Hall said. “You don’t last 32 years at some place without great support from your administration and, obviously, great players. I say it all the time, great players make great coaches.

“… It’s been definitely a family affair for me. But, more importantly, it’s just great for Georgia Tech to have been, I think, a viable NCAA power for many, many years.”
